Project for Children with Thalassemia Who Need Blood Transfusions
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, presided over by Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, together with the Bishop of Guntur, Monsignor Bhagyaiah Chinnabathini, sent a letter to Misión Ruah on March 13, 2026, requesting urgent help for the construction of a care center for children with thalassemia who require blood transfusions.
The bishops informed us that throughout Andhra Pradesh, thousands of innocent children (more than 3,700), weak, vulnerable, and dependent on constant medical attention, are silently battling thalassemia—an illness in which survival depends entirely on the regular availability of safe blood.
For these children, blood is life, and every missed transfusion puts them at serious risk.
Most poor families struggle each month to access safe and timely blood, often traveling long distances—even to other states—due to the lack of nearby centers and reliable information.
As a result, many children do not receive the vital transfusions they need, leading to worsening health, intense suffering, and preventable deaths that could be avoided with reliable access to safe blood.
Moved by this urgent need, the Diocese of Guntur is committed to establishing a Blood Bank and Thalassemia Care Center to ensure timely access to blood and treatment, saving lives and restoring hope to vulnerable children and their families. Father Kiran Kumar, coordinator of charitable work for the Diocese of Guntur and Misión Ruah India, together with Misión Ruah International, will be responsible for carrying out the development of this important medical center.
We trust in your prayers and thank you in advance for your support.
